80 Courage Candidates adopt Move to Amend “We The People” Constitutional Amendment restricting corporate personhood
WASHINGTON, D.C. — 80 Courage Candidates running for federal office in 2026 have pledged their support for the Move to Amend “We The People” Amendment restricting corporate personhood. The text of the amendment, H.J.Res.54, provides that “the rights protected and extended by the Constitution are the rights of natural persons only,” abolishing corporate constitutional rights and ending the legal doctrine that political money spent in elections is First Amendment-protected free speech.
Constitutional amendments face a high bar to adoption: they must be presented as a joint resolution of Congress and receive a two-thirds majority vote in both the House and the Senate. Currently, 72 sitting representatives have co-sponsored the amendment, led by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-10). Move to Amend welcomes the strong support of the Courage Candidates in pursuit of their pro-democracy, anti-corruption agenda.
“The Citizen’s United decision has undermined our democracy for the last 15 years.” says Cole Bennett, co-director of Move to Amend. “The Courage Candidates stepping up to endorse this amendment is the type of political bravery we want to see more of. If you’re for democracy, you are for the We the People amendment.”
“Move to Amend represents the principled, strategic political coalition we are cultivating at Courage for Democracy. The Courage Candidates are working together as a political bloc to push the establishment towards action and accountability and restore our democracy.” said Keira Havens, co-founder of Courage for Democracy.
The flow of money into political races is a bipartisan pain point: a 2025 poll by Issue One and YouGov showed that 79% of Americans (84% Democrats, 74% Republicans and
79% of independents) believe “large independent expenditures by wealthy donors and corporations create corruption or the appearance of corruption.” The Brennan Center estimates that in 2024, unrestricted “dark money” allowed by Citizens’ United doubled, with nearly 1.9 billion dollars from undisclosed donors funding races ranging from local school boards to the election of the President of the United States.

Move to Amend is the main organizational catalyst of the We the People Amendment (H.J.R. 54).The proposed Amendment, sponsored by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) has 72 House co-sponsors. More than 600 political jurisdictions across the nation have passed resolutions or citizen-driven ballot initiatives calling for the amendment.
Courage for Democracy is a nonpartisan, grassroots PAC that emerged from the Citizens’ Impeachment accountability movement. More than 150 candidates running for federal office in 2026 have committed to their pro-democracy, anti-corruption platform. In addition to committing to support the “We the People” amendment restricting corporate personhood, every Courage Candidate has also pledged to introduce articles of impeachment if elected, holding Donald Trump and his enablers accountable for thousands of documented violations of constitutional and international statutes.
