Aishwarya “Sparky” Mitra

Sparky Mitra is a Bengali-American bioengineer and community organizer running for California’s 50th Congressional District. As someone shaped by science and sharpened by struggle, navigating hurricanes while growing up on the gulf-coast to education costs as a student borrower, Mitra is running to defend what matters: our planet, our communities, and our rights to speak, organize, and thrive.

Sparky is fighting to take decisive actions on the affordability and housing crisis and to challenge oligarchs who currently dominate conversations on medical costs and climate catastrophes. Mitra is running to bring the voices of all in California’s 50th into every conversation. Specifically, everyone from renters and student borrowers to queer folks, union workers, immigrants and everyone in-between. The fight has brought Mitra out of labs and machine shops, straight into community organizing and she hopes to carry this momentum into Congress to spark bold progressive change across her region and country.
