Frankie Fonseca

Frankie Fonseca is a South Jersey born artist, astrologer and activist running for Congress in New Jersey’s 1st District. He’s the first trans man and first trans person of color to ever run for the United States Congress. Frankie is running to open doors that have been locked for generations and to bring erased communities into the center of power.

Frankie’s lineage shapes his mission. His great grandfather, Deogracias Fonseca, became President of Colombia through survival, not privilege. He entered the military having no other path, rose through the ranks, served as a general, governor and mayor, was wounded in battle and helped remove a dictatorship.

He served in a military junta, restoring democracy after it had been taken from the people.

Fonseca continues that work through a different path. Where his great grandfather fought through violence and necessity, Frankie fights through creativity, visibility and healing. He’s deeply connected to his Colombian and Indigenous ancestry and believes his generation is meant to heal what older generations could not.

Frankie is an independent alt rock musician who has released six albums in two years, writing about healing, resistance, visibility and transformation. As a trans man navigating systems that don’t recognize him, he understands what must change.

His rallying call is #FrankieFights, powered by creativity, truth and the belief that democracy is something every generation must protect and rebuild.
