Laura Dunn
Laura Dunn is an award-winning civil rights attorney running for Congress in New York’s 12th District. She has dedicated her career to fighting for victims and marginalized communities, in the courtroom and on Capitol Hill.
As an outspoken survivor of campus rape, Dunn transformed her pain into a passion. She worked with the Obama Administration to develop key Title IX guidance and helped draft and pass the 2013 VAWA Reauthorization. The U.S. Department of Education then appointed her to serve on the 2014 VAWA Rulemaking Committee.
For this advocacy work, then-Vice President Joe Biden invited her to advise the White House Task Force to Protect Students Against Sexual Assault. The former U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chair, Patrick Leahy (D-VT), honored Dunn on the Senate floor and invited her to clerk for him on Capitol Hill.
After law school, Dunn founded the award-winning nonprofit, SurvJustice. For this organization, Dunn won the 2017 DOJ Special Courage Award and AAUW Eleanor Roosevelt Fund Award. She is also a 2018 TED Fellow with 1.2M views on her talk about the Equal Rights Amendment.
Dunn will bring new era to Congress, grounded in accountability, affordability, and advancement of technology responsibility.
