Vichal Kumar
Vichal Kumar is a Democratic candidate and public defender running for Congress in New York’s 7th Congressional District. The son of working-class immigrants, Vichal grew up in a household without health insurance, where his parents ran a small convenience store on razor-thin margins and still extended credit to neighbors who couldn’t pay.
For 20 years as a public defender, Vichal represented New Yorkers on their hardest days — fighting evictions, defending immigrant communities from deportation, maintaining and securing jobs, and holding landlords accountable. He developed holistic defense programs in the Bronx and Harlem, and scaled the model to diverse rural and urban communities nationwide. Proving that you can build institutions that deliver for people when government fails.
The political establishment has failed the working families of NY-07. Vichal is running to bring 20 years of frontline experience to Congress, fighting to dismantle ICE, guarantee healthcare, end corporate influence in politics, and hold an authoritarian administration accountable. No corporate PACs, super PACs or independent expenditures. Vichal knows it’s time to elect leaders who have done the work and will deliver for working people.
